SECOND STAR SAILING is a sailing school based in Jolly Harbour, Antigua and in Pisa, Italy. The sailing seasons are alternating, which allows us to sail all year round in the most beautiful locations – in Tuscany from April to October, and in the Caribbean from October to July.
Second Star Sailing is a RYA Accredited Training Centre, providing sail training and powerboat courses using the prestigious British Royal Yachting Association’s certification system. The school’s offerings range widely from the full spectrum of RYA sailing and powerboat courses to technical workshops, participating in regattas, Atlantic Crossings, or simply as a fun day charter and cruise, or a relaxing vacation with your family and friends. Second Star Sailing also focuses on encouraging and empowering female sailing with our “Women at the Helm” program, designed for all female training courses, regattas, and workshops.

RYA Sailing courses

We offer the entire RYA Sail cruising scheme courses, subdivided into three levels: Start Sailing, Become a Skipper, Become a Yachtmaster – as well as one-day courses such as VHF SRC Radio, First Aid, Radar & special workshops. You can find full list of courses, calendar, and prices on our website

All courses are available in Caribbean and in Italy during the sailing season.
If you are willing to take a sailing course but not looking to acquire a certificate, we suggest taking a Skills Week – it’s a practical 5-day sailing course to refresh your existing skills, gain more confidence on the water, and work on specific sailing maneuvers.

Cruising and Charters

Our programs span from daysails to weekends on board, to week-long cruises among the islands, or you can design your own trip with our bespoke options, including:

Chartering a boat with our skipper and crew, who will allow you to relax completely and just enjoy being aboard
Chartering a boat with our skipper, and if you have previous sailing experience, you will be crewing and participating in the full sailing adventure

The cruise can take between 4-6 days, depending on how long you choose to linger in each individually stunning island location.

Discover Barbuda – this lovely cruise takes you to the secluded island of Barbuda. Sailing from our base in Antigua, we spend 3-5 days relaxing at anchor, enjoying the beauty of the island.

RYA Powerboat Level 2

The RYA Powerboat Level 2 course is aimed at students without any previous knowledge and experience on powerboats. It’s a 2-day predominantly practical course on the water with only minimal sessions ashore.
RYA Powerboat Level 2 courses are available only in Antigua at this moment.
We also have a day charter option on our powerboat – please enquire!

Boatmaster Grade 3

The Boatmaster Grade 3 course is designed for those wishing to get the Antigua & Barbuda Department of Marine Services (ADOMS) license to obtain a Caribbean Boat Master’s license (CBML). The course is designed for mariners who operate open vessels in protected waters, performing boating operations for services like hotel watersports, search and rescue operations, charters, commercial fishing etc.

Women at the Helm

Women At The Helm is a concept created by our female instructors, focused on developing opportunities for women to acquire sailing skills in a supportive and fun environment. Female-only courses and events at all levels offer a powerful opportunity to build on your sailing skills with other like-minded women. Our programs range widely from the full spectrum of RYA courses to technical workshops, to participating in Regattas as part of all-female crews, to Atlantic Crossings.

Women at the Helm program courses are available in Antigua and in Italy during our sailing season.

Regattas

Join us for the most amazing racing in the Caribbean – Grenada Sailing week, RORC 600 Caribbean, Heineken in St. Maarten, and our beloved Antigua Sailing Week – just to name a few.
Italian racing season includes regattas like – 151 Miglia, Giraglia , Elbablè, Middle Sea Race .
We normally include several days of training before the regattas to learn new tactics, come together as a crew, and enjoy the clear sea and the wind, which never fails to show up.
